**Updated 11/27/11 – I have removed a couple of entries as they are now charging substantially for their listings.
**Updated! I had to delete one, but I added 3 more, notated with a red asterisk *.
**Note: To my knowledge all of this listings can be obtained for free, but a few people have said that a couple were fee based. They did not inform me, however, which sites those were, so I’m unable to update this list accordingly. If you visit a site and they are charging for the listing, I would appreciate it if you would leave a comment and let me know so that I can update this list.

Since Google’s #1 qualification for higher page ranking is the number of backlinks to a site, spending some time finding those links is a priority. Every qualified, relevant link counts, so I’ve compiled a list of 62 places where you can list your website or blog. All of these sites offer free links, some also offer paid upgrades for more exposure. All will help boost your SEO and increase your chances of getting found online!
I have my website and/or blog listed on all of these sites, but I’m always looking for more! If you know of other sites where we can get free listings, please let us know in the comments below!

Thanks for the heads up Andi, I’m wondering if it’s because they do have a rather persistent pop up. They do have a heavily traveled site however (only 4,400 Alexa rating), and they’re pretty popular, so I think it’s safe.
Wow. That’s awesome.

i was merely browsing alongside and uncovered your site. merely wantd to say excellent internet site and this post truly helped me.
This is one list I wish you’d let us copy (I want to make notes on each, keep track, etc. and revisit later) but you’ve got it copy protected (and I don’t blame you…but). Thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

Hi Patricia,
Unfortunately I can’t be selective about which posts to unprotect, it’s either all or nothin’, I’m afraid. You can print it however, using your browser. It will print the entire page, but at least you’d have it. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Theresa, this is a great list of place for people to start with their online SEO. Of course before posting one link they should be 100% sure that each page on their site has good on-site optimization. Question though..I do wonder why you use the copy protect when users can easily disable it? Seems like a waste of time, plus it definitely hinders the user’s experience… IMHO of course!
Seo Dayton Ohio recently posted..Why Dayton Businesses Need to be Careful When Choosing a Professional SEO in Dayton Ohio
Thanks for your comment, yes this is just one of many articles that I’ve posted to help people learn about SEO. Hopefully they’re making use of the other articles as well, so they can improve SEO in all areas, not just one, since they all work together. I’ve disabled the right click because I discovered that many of my articles were appearing in other, non-approved places, so to avoid as many duplicate content issues as I can, I felt it was necessary. It’s a simple plugin, it didn’t take any time at all, I don’t have to apply it to every post. I don’t see how it would really hinder the user’s experience at all. They can always print the page if they need to.
Hi Theresa, you said, “….to avoid as many duplicate content issues as I can”.
What issues are they? My understanding is that Google will list new content and any duplicates get ignored as far as rankings go, although they do count any links. Is that your understanding? If so then why would there be any issue?

Ray, no the duplicate content issue exists still, and to my knowledge Google will still punish for what they consider to be “malicious” duplicate content. Of course, they may interpret something as malicious, when it’s not, so I choose to err on the side of caution. Here is a link to the most current information about this. This article was revised on July 23rd of this year. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66359
Hi Theresa,
Thanks for your response and the article link. Your advice has been taken on board and I’ll be a bit more careful in future. It pays to err on the side of caution and go straight to the top as you have done with your link.
Appreciated

thanks for the useful info! best of the web charges you btw.
Oops, thanks for that! I have a few more to add to the list, so I’ll remove that one on the next update.
And better networker or blog engage or blogarama or entireweb, blog farm, blogged and blogernity don’t work.
(sorry I got a bit click happy!)

Blog Farm had the incorrect URL, so that’s been repaired, the others all worked for me, except Blogged & Bloggernity, but they’re acting funny as if there were server issues, so I think I’ll wait a few days and try again before I completely remove them. Thanks for the help!
Very handy list Theresa, Thanks!
If only I had enough time to submit to all these!

Thanks for every guys.
I have recently started a website, the info you offer on this website has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.
Hi Theresa,
I looked through the page and was surprised that no one mentioned YouTube. I have helped my husband to create a YouTube Channel, which does take a day or 2 (if you are a “newbie” like me), but increased the traffic and search engine rankings for his sites dramatically.
From what I have read, YouTube accounts for 2 Billion daily searches, and nearly 20% of the traffic on Google. Since it is free, it is definitely something I would add to the list, and once you see the results you will get a better idea of how good this can be for your site.
My hubby pointed out that it is better to create the videos yourself, since you can add keywords and links back to your site in the YouTube listing. Apparently, just using a video from YouTube that you have not created yourself does not have the same dramatic positive effect, but still does have a mildly positive one because of YouTube’s authority site wide.

Hi Kathy,
I guess I was thinking only along the lines of directories and such, but you’re right, the main point is for SEO and backlinks, so YouTube is an excellent place! I’ll be sure to add it to my next update, thanks so much for bringing it to my attention!
